Dennis Lee Howe

Dennis Lee Howe, 58, of Cherry Creek passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Brooks Memorial Hospital. He was born July 14, 1963, in Jamestown to the late Adelbert and Rosemary (Earle) Howe.

Dennis owned and operated DL Howe Trucking & Excavating since he was in his early 20s. He served his community well and was especially sought after by the Amish. He was well known for his fairness when it was time to hand over the bill. It was very important for Dennis to never overcharge even though he would always say "people are starving over my way."

He has lived his life in "High Gear," always with the "hammer down, in the left lane." Dennis has spent the last eight years hauling pallets for McIntosh Box & Pallet Company in Fredonia. He took a great responsibly in doing his part to help this business prosper. If you happen to live along the route from Dennis' shop to his delivery destination, you undoubtedly heard his heavy use of the Jake Brake all hours of the day or night. One of his favorite sayings was, "The world runs on pallets."

Dennis was well known for assigning a nickname to everyone he met, whether you knew him for five minutes of five years. He was kind-hearted and generous man always willing to lend a hand. Dennis' many close friends and family would quickly agree he just simply made the day-to-day routine a lot more fun. His daily phone calls to check and see, "what gear you got er' in," and to remind you at 6am that the day is half over, will be dearly missed.

But above all Dennis' love for his family was first and foremost in his life. He was a gentle, loving and supportive father. To him, his girls were his greatest accomplishment.

Dennis is survived by his daughters Brita Howe (Travis Storer) and Autumn Howe, all of Cassadaga; his "Buttercup," Stacey Mierzwa, and stepdaughter Alison Mierzwa of Forestville; his sister Mary (Bruce) Parment of Bemus Point; and his brother Terry (Penny) Howe of Cherry Creek. Along with his parents, Dennis was preceded by his brother Daniel Howe, October 6, 1979, and his stepdaughter Faith Mierzwa, October 28, 2020.

A private funeral will be held.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 554 Kent Street, Cherry Creek, NY 14723

Arrangements entrusted to DiStasio Funeral Home Inc.
